AI in recent years is rapidly advancing and has triggered revolutionary changes in our economy and society. The impact of new technology on the employment market raises great public concern that AI may take over human jobs. With the lead of Dr. Peter Lee, Chairman of OCTSRI, the Institute teamed up with the University of Oxford to evaluate the exposure of Hong Kong jobs to automation.

The analysis found 28% of 3.7 million jobs in Hong Kong are at high risk of automation (≥70%) while 18% are at low risk (≤30%). It means about a million working population in Hong Kong would face as high as 70% chance of being substituted by AI technology. Based on the analysis and findings, we believe Hong Kong should embrace the AI trend and actively transform itself to adapt to the new AI era.
